Training designed for your real operation
The structure of the course was divided into two phases, adapted to the needs of the body:
1. Online theoretical training
The theoretical part was developed online, which allowed CHD technicians to combine learning with their daily activity. During these sessions, the following were discussed in depth:
- European EASA regulation for open (A1/A3) and specific (STS) operations.
- Safe operating procedures.
- Interpretation of aerial maps and use of airspace
- Limitations, meteorology and basic UAS maintenance
- Remote pilot and operator responsibilities
The training guaranteed that the participants acquired the necessary knowledge to carry out operations with full security and within the current legal framework.

2. In-person internship at the Matilla Airport (Valladolid)
The practical phase was carried out at the Matilla Airport, located at:Valladolid-Tordesillas Highway, Exit 145, 47114 Matilla de los Caños, Valladolid.
This environment allowed professional exercises to be carried out in a controlled space suitable for training:
- Basic and advanced flight maneuvers.
- European standard STS procedures.
- Emergency practices and quick decision-making
- Automated flights and planned missions.
- Stability, precision and operational safety control.
The participants were able to put into practice what they had learned and simulate real work situations, oriented to the usual needs of the CHD: inspection of hydraulic infrastructures, flow control, environmental monitoring, cartography and technical support.

A step forward in the modernization and digitalization of water management
The incorporation of pilots trained in A1/A3 and STS allows the Douro Hydrographic Confederation to move towards more management:
- efficient, thanks to the speed of flight execution;
- safe, by reducing risks in complex inspections;
- accurate, thanks to up-to-date data and high-resolution aerial captures;
- sustainable, by minimizing travel and necessary resources in the field.
Drones have become key tools in public bodies responsible for the supervision and protection of the territory, and this training places the CHD in a solid position to face current and future challenges.

Commitment to specialized training
At Gridflight we continue to work to offer training programs adapt to public and private institutions, with a practical approach, updated and aligned with European regulations.
